Rexy's Commission Information by freqrexy

Back around June / July, I decided to challenge myself and start having a go at using Copic markers.  I studied techniques and the kinds of colors you could work with to best suit one's workflow, then as the custom order I got came through the mail - all Ciao markers because I am a cheapskate - I got to work and started putting them into practice.

Over the space of 30 days, pretty much every Copic drawing I did was a chibi drawing of Baron Praxis doing different things, all while complimenting his character.  The resulting drawings can be seen over here - a different scenario on each page from the more obvious ones like piloting his mecha, sitting on his throne and giving out speeches, to even more flexible ones like manning a snowfort, the Fourth of July and even a birthday party.

Day 14 resulted in one of my favorites and was heavily inspired by when I started playing Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy at that same time.  The way I went through it was by going through 1 first, then 2 and then Warped - and as I went further into the first game's remake, I got a huge reminder of how much David Siller's game design molded me into a glutton for punishment especially in later stages.  Sunset Vista, The High Road, Slippery Climb, Toxic Waste and later Stormy Ascent due to DLC showed how old-school his game choices were - fine and dandy for those that searched for precision based challenges, but they were still insanely brutal for anyone that wanted to go back after enjoying the sequels.

So here's the situation - the Baron met up with fellow Naughty Dog created antagonist Dr. Neo Cortex for a fun night of gaming together.  But can it really be "fun" if Cortex would subject him to the same perilous trials many a long-time Crash fan did back in 1996?  With all of his encounters against the Metal Head leader, reactive thinking was never the Baron's strongest point, so how could he do the same with fast moving platforms and tricky placed enemies / collectibles?  Platforming is tough business! D:

Having drawn chibi Baron for 2 weeks I had already gotten the hang of what colors to use and which ones to blend where, though this was also the first time I had drawn Cortex in a long time - in fact, his regular proportions are more chibi-like with his scrawny body and over-sized head!  I had a lot of fun fitting in the snacks and drinks, all using Precursor text to detail their branding (MLG yo!), while making sure to pick appropriate colors to contrast the rest of the scene - or compliment in the case of the soda bottle, for obvious reasons.

Having seen how well this and the other 29 images turned out over time, I feel as if I want to add Copic drawings to my commissions as a lower-priced tier.  I found that I would knock them out in no more than 6 hours at a time, though with no undo button it'll be hard to see me in my usual perfectionist way.  If you think this'll work and want me to draw one, hit me up and I'll list proposed prices when I'm ready!

Thanks for looking at this and I'll report back soon x)

Crash Bandicoot is a franchise currently owned by the hands of Activision, while Jak and Daxter is still in the grasp of Sony Computer Entertainment.  I drew this!
